In an epic showdown around Magoebaskloof, 9 teams of two became the first participants of the first Limpopo Amazing Race held on 23 April 2022. A combination of endurance tasks and quizzes, the race also showcased the incredible activities in and around Magoebaskloof. The teams, complete with matching gear and team-chants vied to be the Champions, kicking off at Magoebaskloof Adventures in George’s Valley with a daring wall-climbing challenge and an adrenaline-fuelled zipline over gorges and waterfalls. Teams jostled for the winning place for each leg of the race to accumulate valuable points.
Pumped up by the opening activities, teams raced off to the second leg at Boschoek Farm in Politsi where teams competed in the Farmer's Challenge by using the specialized tools provided to pick a basket of avocados from the well-established orchards. The second challenge at Boschoek Farm was a less technical one where competitors had to re-tell the famous and fascinating story of Queen Modjadji through any art form. Teams got creative by rapping, acting, using cultural dance and even using nature to help them tell the tale.
The competition was hotting up by the time the participants got to the Amazing Maze at the renowned Amorentia Nursery. Here, racing through the thick and fragrant hedges of ‘Yesterday Today and Tomorrow’ bushes, teams were tested on their navigation and collaboration skills. Not as easy as it sounds, as the drone footage shows! The first team to get both team members to the centre of the maze won this fun and frenetic leg of the race. After an amazing variety of challenges in some of the most scenic spots in the area, the teams faced their final test - the Brew Master's challenge to correctly select the Award-winning craft beers amongst the full range from Zwakala Brewery and then complete the Giant Jenga game whilst spectators cheered them on.
Congratulations to the winning pair, Du Best Warriors with Team Blessed hot on their heels. Be sure to book your spot for the Summer Amazing Race to be held on 2 and 3 December 2022.
